Recently, Microsoft has created a new series of certifications that will serve as the next generation of accreditation for the Microsoft-using IT world: The MCTS and the MCITP. According to Microsoft, this next generation of certifications is the latest creation in their ever-continuing process of improving their already effective certification program.
Candidates who pass the Configuring Windows 7 (70-680) Exam complete their requirement for the MCTS certification in Windows 7 Configuration. Additionally, candidates who pass this test also earn credit towards one of three possible future MCITP certifications:
- MCITP: Enterprise Administrator
- MCITP: Enterprise Desktop Administrator 7
- MCITP: Enterprise Desktop Support Technician 7
Since this test is on the path towards the prestigious MCITP certification, it is quite comprehensive. The specific objectives for the exam are as follows:
- Installing, Upgrading, and Migrating to Windows 7
- Deploying Windows 7
- Configuring Hardware and Applications
- Configuring Network Connectivity
- Configuring Access to Resources
- Configuring Mobile Computing
- Monitoring and Maintaining Systems that Run Windows 7
- Configuring Backup and Recovery Options
Since this exam is for a relatively new technology, it can be considered moderately difficult. Also, since it lies on the path towards Enterprise administration, candidates can expect complex, business-oriented questions on deployment questions, in addition to common user errors and configuration problems. Almost all of the questions will be multiple choice.
